THRILLER LARGE PRINT FORMATS ARE HERE!

by | Nov 20, 2024 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

Do you know someone who reads large print books for seniors? Or maybe gets large print books from libraries to read?

I come from a family of readers. Mom read to us as kids, and I fell in love with escaping “reality” between the covers of a book. It became a standing family joke to exchange books as Christmas gifts…buying them far enough in advance to read before wrapping them up and sticking them under the tree. My Dad and I have very similar tastes in books.

Every time I released a new book, I sent one to my folks. I thank them in the acknowledgements of every thriller. We lost Mom a little over three years ago, but Dad continues to thrive–at age 97. Our family just celebrated his birthday, and my brothers and I spent time helping to clear out his house as he’s now moved to smaller accommodations. Oh my doG, the books books books and more books! Thrillers, mysteries, art books, textbooks, novels, did I mention art books?

Large Print Books for Seniors

Dad still reads–or wants to, anyway, but his eyes won’t cooperate. That’s not unusual as we age, but our brains and spirits still enjoy thrilling adventures diving into books. Large print books for seniors — for my Dad and many others — seemed a great next step in my publishing journey. And what better time than the holidays when we’re looking for fun and special gifting ops?

It takes more than simply enlarging the text to create a large print edition. Certain kinds of fonts are easier to read, and italics (I use a lot of those!) are challenging to see for low vision folks. Increasing only the type size also increases the number of pages–which in turn jacks up the cost of publication. Making the books available to libraries helps offer readers an economical option to read these editions.

So, after a lot of research and experimentation, I’ve released both large print paperback and hardcover editions of the entire thriller series. Instead of the standard 6″ x 9″ size, these books measure 8.5″ x 11″ (which reduces the page count to 380-450 depending on the book, and thus, the printing cost). They’re printed in sanserif font in 18-point type. Italics are instead underlined (or sometimes bolded). The cover design remains the same but includes a LARGE PRINT badge to make clear the edition.

Available on Amazon, Ingram, & Amy’s (Discount) Store

Yes, you can get the books via Amazon! You’ll have to do a search to find them (Amazon won’t let me link them to the other books).

Large print hardcovers on Amazon and Ingram cost $37.99. I offer them at a discount for $27.99 (individually) or when purchased in a bundle–all 8 books–for $24.99 each to save $104 off. That’s like getting two books free.

Large print paperbacks on Amazon and Ingram cost $27.99. I offer them for $21.99 (individually) or in a bundle–all 8 paperbacks–for $19.99 each to save $64 off, again like getting a couple for free.

What About Libraries?

I would LOVE for these books to become available in your local library! That’s not up to me, though. The very best way to make that happen is for YOU to go to your local library and ASK. That’s it! Truly, it’s that simple.

They are available via Ingram, so your acquisitions librarian can search for the books using the ISBN number, and order that way. But libraries won’t know about the books–or your interest–unless you tell them. (The Ebooks and audiobooks also can go into libraries…if you request them). I’ll help by sharing the information, below, so you can print it or email it to your local branch.

I love love LOVE libraries and librarians and was only able to write my first book because of the wonderful help of a local reference librarian. So please, share away.

August 30 Is National Holistic Pet Day! But What Is Holistic Pet Care?

Have you ever considered holistic medicine for your pets? There are many questions about what is holistic pet care. Is it the same thing as what your regular vet offers? There are many names for offering traditional medicine for pets. Some call it alternative medicine or natural healing. But are there specific definitions, and is holistic pet care a good choice for your cats and dogs? August 30 is National Holistic Pet Day, so it’s a good time to revisit asking these questions.

Why Dogs Bark & How to Stop A Dog from Barking

Do you know how to stop dog barking? “Will you please, for the love of doG, stop barking!” When Shadow-Pup joined our family, he and Bravo-Dawg egged each other on. Now that he’s the only dog, he and the cat tease each other and prompt bark-fest and meow-athons.

Here’s what you need to know about barking to help stem the noise.

Dog Ticks: All About Ehrlichiosis

This disease has been reported worldwide wherever these ticks are found. Most cases in the United States occur in dogs living in the Texas Gulf coast regions and other southern states. All dogs are susceptible, but those with greater exposure to ticks. Outdoor dogs, working dogs and hunting dogs are at highest risk. Here’s what you need to know.

The DOs and DONTs of Camping with Your Dog or Cat

Summer arrived even earlier than expected this year, with temperatures hitting triple digits by mid-June. There’s still plenty of pet camping season left. Even though camping with pets isn’t for me, I know lots of folks who LOVE it, including my brother and his dog. He takes the dog with them camping, boating, skiing, and pretty much everywhere.

Bringing your furry one along camping (or glamping) is a great bonding experience. But before you pack up and hit the road, look over my DOs and DONTs of camping with your dog or cat.

What to do when camping with a pet

First, decide if your pet will enjoy camping. Not all will enjoy it. My Karma-Kat would HATE camping. He’s a homebody, and enjoys watching birds, bunnies, and squirrels through the window, but freezes when his paws hit the grass. Shadow-Pup’s more adventurous and probably would do better…

How to Get the Most from Vet Visits: What to Ask & How to Ask

When I worked as a veterinary technician many years ago, pet parents ask questions all the time, but rarely to the vet. Folks often acted embarrassed, or waited to telephone from home hours or days after the appointment. Perhaps they felt intimidated by the doctor when they take pets to the back, or feared their questions were foolish. Maybe the busy schedule of the clinic offered little opportunity to ask…

How to Prepare for a Disaster: Pet Preparedness & Tips

With the latest awful weather and more on the way, it’s time to revisit your pet disaster plan. You do have one, right? Everyone should understand the importance of disaster preparation.

I posted this in June for National Pet Preparedness Month. September is Disaster Preparation Month. And May 8 was National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day. Being prepared doesn’t rely on a special date, though. Here’s what you need to know.
