Vote for Hero Cat: Cut And Bleed Thriller #10

by | Aug 28, 2026 | Books, Cat Behavior & Care, Contest | 0 comments

Thanks for your patience. Soon I send next thriller CUT AND BLEED #10 to my editor. As soon as I receive the new cover design, I’ll share that and set up pre-orders soon. Yes, the book again will be available as an Ebook, paperback, hardcover, large print, and (eventually) audiobook.

In the tradition of the previous books, I include HERO ANIMAL CHARACTERS in each story. These are chosen by my newsletter subscribers nominating possibilities, often sharing fun pictures, touching and uplifting stories, experiences, funny quirks and descriptions. Nominees are posted here in an open POLL for the world to see and VOTE for the winning hero pet. This book not only features the regular main characters like Shadow and Macy-cat but also includes two hero pets.

The winners will have their pet name/character featured in the story as a hero, acknowledgements in the FACT-FICTION-ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS in the back and also receive a paw-tographed print copy of the published book. You can vote as often as you like–and campaign by sharing with all your friends to also vote so YOUR pick wins the coveted title of HERO PET

Vote For Your Hero Pet! DEADLINE SEPT. 6, 2026 AT 10 pm CST

HERO DOG: Any breed, any mix, any age, and LOVES chewing up paper and shredding it. She or he rides home from Christmas vacation with owner until the car crashes in an ice storm pileup on Heartland’s main street. The dog gets away from the car during the accident, sees a pile of mail spilled into the street from September’s car, and the dog steals a FedEx mailer and dashes away. The dog appears frequently, foils the bad guys (who want the mailer), and helps protect Nikki, September and others. Vote for hero dog here!

HERO CAT: Any breed or mix adult cat. Two kids (you’ll recognize Nikki from earlier stories) think he/she is a stray and try to rescue the cat. An opinionated feline that rules the RIALTO theater, and loves to lurk in hiding spots, escape through hidden passages, and jump out of pianos to surprise the bad guys. This kitty has a lot of ground to cover and he/she must be an athlete able to leap, climb, and squeak between narrow escape passages, walk across high beams, and more.  Vote for hero cat below!

Pictures of Hero Cat Nominees

I’ve included pictures that were shared, and placeholders for others.

I received MANY more nominations than I could include. I’ve chosen a representative variety of wonderful feline heroes for YOU to vote for and choose the winner.

  • And a stolen FedEx mailer.

Mayhem ensues… Can September and Shadow evade this new threat with the help of chosen family and your hero pets? *evil grin!*

August 30 Is National Holistic Pet Day! But What Is Holistic Pet Care?

Have you ever considered holistic medicine for your pets? There are many questions about what is holistic pet care. Is it the same thing as what your regular vet offers? There are many names for offering traditional medicine for pets. Some call it alternative medicine or natural healing. But are there specific definitions, and is holistic pet care a good choice for your cats and dogs? August 30 is National Holistic Pet Day, so it’s a good time to revisit asking these questions.

Why Dogs Bark & How to Stop A Dog from Barking

Do you know how to stop dog barking? “Will you please, for the love of doG, stop barking!” When Shadow-Pup joined our family, he and Bravo-Dawg egged each other on. Now that he’s the only dog, he and the cat tease each other and prompt bark-fest and meow-athons.

Here’s what you need to know about barking to help stem the noise.

Dog Ticks: All About Ehrlichiosis

This disease has been reported worldwide wherever these ticks are found. Most cases in the United States occur in dogs living in the Texas Gulf coast regions and other southern states. All dogs are susceptible, but those with greater exposure to ticks. Outdoor dogs, working dogs and hunting dogs are at highest risk. Here’s what you need to know.

The DOs and DONTs of Camping with Your Dog or Cat

Summer arrived even earlier than expected this year, with temperatures hitting triple digits by mid-June. There’s still plenty of pet camping season left. Even though camping with pets isn’t for me, I know lots of folks who LOVE it, including my brother and his dog. He takes the dog with them camping, boating, skiing, and pretty much everywhere.

Bringing your furry one along camping (or glamping) is a great bonding experience. But before you pack up and hit the road, look over my DOs and DONTs of camping with your dog or cat.

What to do when camping with a pet

First, decide if your pet will enjoy camping. Not all will enjoy it. My Karma-Kat would HATE camping. He’s a homebody, and enjoys watching birds, bunnies, and squirrels through the window, but freezes when his paws hit the grass. Shadow-Pup’s more adventurous and probably would do better…

How to Get the Most from Vet Visits: What to Ask & How to Ask

When I worked as a veterinary technician many years ago, pet parents ask questions all the time, but rarely to the vet. Folks often acted embarrassed, or waited to telephone from home hours or days after the appointment. Perhaps they felt intimidated by the doctor when they take pets to the back, or feared their questions were foolish. Maybe the busy schedule of the clinic offered little opportunity to ask…

How to Prepare for a Disaster: Pet Preparedness & Tips

With the latest awful weather and more on the way, it’s time to revisit your pet disaster plan. You do have one, right? Everyone should understand the importance of disaster preparation.

I posted this in June for National Pet Preparedness Month. September is Disaster Preparation Month. And May 8 was National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day. Being prepared doesn’t rely on a special date, though. Here’s what you need to know.

How to Choose Pet Sitters

When the holidays or business travel rolls around, pet sitters can be a big help when you plan vacations with or without your dog or cat. .Time off from work and a change of routine offers humans much-needed stress relief. But the same is not always true for furry family members. That’s where pet sitters come in. Do you have a pet sitter for your furry wonders? Here’s what you need to know!
